Data And Strategy Consultant Intern

As an intern in this role, you will gain hands-on experience working closely with department leads and team members to optimize data processes, create impactful dashboards, and contribute to strategic decision-making across various departments, including safety, operations, and finance. This internship will provide you with valuable skills and knowledge in data analytics and strategy consulting within the transportation industry.

Responsibilities:

Collaborate with department leads and cross-functional teams to understand data requirements, identify areas for improvement, and streamline data processes to enhance operational efficiency.
Assist in collecting, organizing, and analyzing large datasets to identify trends, patterns, and insights that support data-driven decision-making for departmental heads and senior management.
Utilize SQL to write queries and extract data from various databases, ensuring data accuracy and integrity.
Leverage Looker Studio to design and develop interactive dashboards and visualizations for different departments, including safety, operations, and finance, enabling stakeholders to easily access and analyze relevant data.

Job Description: This position is responsible for the day to day accounting operations of the overall company (Asset & Brokerage divisions), including the production of periodic financial reports and maintenance of an adequate system of accounting records. This is a hands-on position and this role will be responsible for cash management. This role will also manage the day-to-day record keeping of accounts, including accounts payable, accounts receivable, bank reconciliation, journal entry posting, and financial statement preparation.

Oversee and actively participate in the operations of the accounting department.

Job Description: This individual will be responsible for assisting the Safety Manager. This role will be responsible for processing applications and handling / reviewing driver logs. In addition, the Safety Compliance Coordinator will manage the comprehensive motor carrier safety program in accordance with company policies and ensure compliance with laws and regulations. Additionally, this individual will ensure the safety of drivers and confirm that DOT compliances are met as well as assist new drivers in various capacities.

Responsibilities:

Coordinate priorities for all safety and compliance functions company wide.
On a daily basis review and audit driver logs to ensure drivers compliance to DOT rules and regulations.
Assist with all driver questions regarding hours of service and driver logs.
Manage insurance claims process for all accidents/incidents, including reporting claims, entry of claims into applicable systems, and weekly follow up with insurance providers until claim is resolved.
Assist the recruitment/onboarding department with driver onboarding, including driver orientation, review and audit of driver qualification files, and setup of new drivers in applicable systems.
Perform all driver educational functions including: Corrective education for drivers with violations/safety issues; Based on safety data and trends, lead company-wide driver education & communication for any policy updates, reminders, and issues.
Perform regular audits of driver qualification files to ensure compliance with FMCSR and DOT regulations.
Coordinate compliance activities for any DOT or safety audits.
Professionally communicate and coordinate with all other company departments, including Recruitment, Maintenance, and Operations to ensure all drivers are operating within all applicable rules, regulations, policies & procedures.

Experience:

1-2+ years of Transportation Safety or related experience.
Knowledge of the Federal Motor Carrier Safety Regulations (F.M.C.S.R.).

Dispatch experience is highly preferred.

Assisting all drivers on their board during their shift will include tasks such as following up with drivers, assisting with accurately updating their location and on-time arrivals, managing their punctuality and providing as-needed support such as coordinating service for any equipment issues which may arise.

Working complimentary to the weekday dispatch team, as well as the night dispatcher, the weekend dispatcher will be responsible for monitoring, supporting and closing off afternoon shift drivers, monitoring weekend drivers and providing equipment and paperwork to the day shift driving fleet.

Cross training is essential to the success of the entire team, and will be required for each and every member of the Dispatch team. Training is provided for this position to learn our processes and in-house TMS. The ideal candidate will be ready to learn, with some dispatch experience (junior dispatch/ dispatch assistant).

The ideal candidate will be comfortable working alone, with minimal supervision and a remotely available team of support persons for a portion of the shift. Additional members will join the Midnight Dispatcher on shift overlaps (beginning and end of their shift), and will account for a small portion of overlap

Absolute Must:

Must have exceptional communication skills both written and verbal
Must possess good negotiation skills and excellent judgment
Must have excellent customer service skills, a strong work ethic with exception interpersonal skills

Requirements:

Proven experience as data entry clerk
Daily tracing and tracking of all shipments through to delivery
Working closely with suppliers, carriers and customers to manage shipments and contracts
Working closely with other departments to ensure smooth execution
Answer incoming calls and make outbound calls ensuring outstanding customer service.
Provide timely and accurate shipment information to carriers.

Ideally:

Prior Transportation Industry and/or Logistics experience are an asset
Entrepreneurial spirit and interpersonal savvy
Sound analytical and critical thinking skills.
Proven communication and time-management skills
Strong customer service and relationship-building skills
The ability to thrive in a fast-pace, deadline-oriented environment

Requirements:

Negotiate, dispatch and assign carriers to customers’ shipments to support the company
Manage carrier portfolio, including developing strong relationships and operational understandings, helping match carrier preferred lanes with freight, and work with carriers as determined by the company
Continually source new carriers for portfolio, developing the same relationships and understandings
Proactively communicate pertinent shipment details to/from motor carriers, and our internal team
Work closely with senior management to define strategic direction and objections
Collaborate with Carrier’s, Freight Forwarders, and fellow colleagues on a daily basis

Ideally:

Requirements:

Proven track record in sales in transportation/logistics (3PL preferred)
Excellent communications skills (oral and written)
Highly motivated self-starter
Tactfully relentless and disciplined
